White Light, White Magic?

Hello if you have read my articles before you know me to be Stephen Thibault II

I have served 6 years in the Army National Guard and worked with four out of the 5 service branches, the Coast Guard being the exception, between my civilian positions as a contractor, and my time in service.

You also know I can be quite opinionated.

I have been studying various religions since my past article submission and I have come to many inconclusions, as I am sure we all do when discussing religion. Its why its one of the taboo topics for friendly conversation, in my opinion, but none the less I have some things to ramble about.

I have a friend and he is a Wiccan, I have another whom has pioneered the title Nondenominational Pagan, and then there is my White lighter (we’ll cover him later) whilst I am a Christian/Baptist as are most of my other friends.

Now that I have set the stage with the players lets see what happens…

Long ago before our parents were born, in a town named Salem a most famous event occurred, we had a barbeque, not your typical one either, a holocost type. We slaughtered and burned people who for all intents and purposes were guilty of nothing but having a view that the average person of that time didn’t understand. This brings many questions to mind

1) Why would one do this?

2) Who in their right mind consents to being burned?

3) What if they were right?

Question One: In my mind the only thing I can think of is a passage from the bible:

Exd 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

Which when read with the scripture, seems to have been thrown in, like an after thought.

Now question Two:

The best I was able to find was the angry townsfolk principle, you know, where all the citizens are rallied up Monty Python style and clamed to have been turned to newts (they got better) and that only so and so could have done this awful thing to them!!

Which brings me to question Three: Ah now this is a dozy if there ever was one, one that could possibly topple ones whole philosophical out look, their Rock upon which they have built their house. So this in turn required more research, yes this would be much harder and more complex a search. So I did the logical Baptist thing, I asked my reverend.

He of course told me what I thought he would," witchery is the devil!!"

But if Witchery was not the devil he would have nothing to preach about so I have to assume to a point that his answer was partly belief, partly Exd 22:18, and partly job security. Not the mention that if nothing else it would mean change and as any Baptist will tell you, change is bad. (for Exp. How many Baptist does it take to change a light bulb? None, why would you change it?)

Next I talked to my friends, and here I found most of the same thing I found from my preacher, except for 3, the Pagan, the Wiccan, and a Christian. The Wiccan and Pagan simply told me the bible is a great thing excellent brain washing tool used to control the masses. I told them “all you nonconformist are all alike". But the Christian surprised me, he said I do witchcraft, well you would call if witchcraft. This made me pause, please, excuse me, my brain thumped, how is this born again Christian be saying this, and then he explained. White Light, or White magic (Magik, as he spells it) can be only from the glory of God, only god can grant man such power. So all one has to do is ask, and he shall receive. He gave us dominion over all things here on this planet, and we have the right to use them as we see fit, within the laws of man, combat and common sense. He even went so far as to say that Jesus did magical things, as we whom are Christian have always called his miracles.

Now did this answer my question, no, but it has given me something to think on. And I now impart my inconclusions on to you.

This made me pause to think. I don't agree with pagans or wickens but I can see the point that you are making or not making. Miracles can be conceived as magic to some people. But, I believe that if you have to think or pounder something, then you can not go wrong thinking about religion. It is better than t hinking about murder or stealing, etc... Keep writting you have a knack for it...
